Providence Health & Services Behavioral Health Intake Specialist in San Pedro, California
Providence is calling a Per Diem, Variable shift Behavioral Health Intake Specialist to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro in San Pedro, CA.
In this position you will:
Assesses the treatment needs of behavioral health patients, determines the appropriate level of care and secures patient account reimbursement information by obtaining demographic, insurance and behavioral health clinical information.
Additionally, verifies insurance and secures initial insurance authorization for treatment and ensures required authorizations are in place. Communicates all pertinent collateral clinical information to the on call psychiatrist/physician, the unit charge nurse and the care management team where the respective patient will be placed. The BHIS works collaboratively with multiple disciplines, both internal and external to the organization.
Patients to include: Young, middle and older adults. Designated as a Behavioral Health Clinician to perform 5150 evaluations by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health (DMH). Licensed Clinical Social workers must follow DMH policies and guidelines.
The BHIS also provides clinical social work interventions including psychosocial assessments and discharge planning to patients who are receiving treatment in the Emergency Department, Medical Acute Inpatient units or a behavioral health unit.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Completion of an accredited Master’s Program in Social Work. LCSW licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), required.
Designated as a Behavioral Health Clinician to perform 5150 evaluations within 9 months of hire. All LCSWs must follow the policies and guidelines by Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health for LPS designation and keep their designation in current status, required.
Requires 3-5 years of behavioral health intake experience in a behavioral healthcare setting including assessments and intake and referral functions for acute psychiatry services.
Experience with payers and obtaining authorizations.
Healthcare workplace violence prevention certification within 6 months of hire.
Requires advanced communication skills to communicate effectively with patients, interdisciplinary team physicians and the community.Must be able to fluently speak, read, write and understand English.
Knowledgeable of mental health and substance abuse conditions and their treatment; levels of care/settings within Behavioral Health; crisis and behavior management; case management theories, processes and procedures; and community resources with discharge planning experience.
Requires flexibility and strong self-motivation / organizational skills to prioritize work and make decisions with minimal supervision.
Requires computer experience / literacy as needed for the job.
Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; physical agility to manage patients; push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds; intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping; drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen, and as defined by the RU-91 form.
Requires a courteous and cooperative service-oriented demeanor.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
A minimum of 2 years of medical social work experience within an inpatient medical care setting or within an emergency department, preferred.
A minimum of 2 years of substance abuse treatment experience within an inpatient or outpatient setting, preferred.
